Biomedical Sequencing Facility (CeMM)

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Biomedical Sequencing Facility (BSF) is a joint core facility of the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Medical University of Vienna. With a dedicated team of staff scientists, the BSF contributes to basic biology, biomedical research and precision medicine in Vienna, Austria, and internationally. The BSF is equipped with the latest next-generation sequencing technology for large-scale genome research. It has a strong focus on technology development, contribution to study design and bioinformatic data analysis, as well as training and teaching best practices in sequencing technology and genomic medicine.

TERMS OF USE:

The BSF offers flexible and scalable next-generation sequencing solutions and makes a broad range of post-genomic technologies accessible to biomedical researchers and clinicians in Vienna and beyond.

SERVICES:

  • Research support and consulting for a broad range of applications of next-generation sequencing in biomedicine
  • Library preparation service for transcriptome, whole genome, exome, epigenome and single-cell sequencing
  • Next-generation sequencing service using the Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies platforms
  • Bioinformatic data processing and additional bioinformatic services including data analyses, long-term archival, and assistance with publication-related sharing (e.g. GEO submission)

INSTRUMENTATION AVAILABLE:

  • Illumina NovaSeq 6000 for highest throughput and cost efficiency for high-end applications
  • Illumina HiSeq 3000/4000 for high throughput and cost efficiency for standard applications
  • Illumina NextSeq for technology development and certain medium-scale applications
  • Illumina MiSeq for amplicon gene panels and other small-scale applications
  • PerkinElmer Sciclone NGS (pre-PCR) and Zephyr (post-PCR) robotics system supporting 96-well automated next-generation sequencing library preparation
  • 10x Genomics Chromium Controller for single-cell sequencing applications
  • Powerful scientific computing cluster that is upgraded annually to keep pace with steeply increasing amounts of data generation

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

The services of the Biomedical Sequencing Facility should be acknowledged through a note in the Acknowledgements section and/or through co-authorship of individual team members, depending on the scope and scale of the contribution. The team of the Biomedical Sequencing Facility offers to contribute text for the Methods section, to critically review manuscripts from a technical perspective, and to assist with data upload to the relevant public repositories such as NCBI GEO and EBI EGA.

CONTACT:

Please contact the BSF team at bsf@cemm.at for next-generation sequencing services and all related matters, including the coordination of sample submission, requests for quotes, scheduling of in-person meetings and advice on topics related to next-generation sequencing study design, protocol choice, data management, bioinformatic analysis, etc.
